The CAO Amazon Basin Extra Añejo takes one of CAO’s most distinctive and sought-after blends and gives it additional time to mature. Built around the rare Brazilian Bragança tobacco grown in remote areas of the Amazon rainforest, the Extra Añejo uses the same exotic blend as the original Amazon Basin but is rested for an additional two years. That extra aging allows the tobaccos to settle and develop greater depth, producing a smoother and more refined expression of the Amazon Basin profile.

The blend is wrapped in a rich Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder, with Brazilian Bragança, Colombian, and Dominican tobaccos making up the filler. The rare Bragança leaf is particularly notable: it is grown in remote Amazonian terrain and is a defining component of the Amazon Basin series.

The smoking experience begins with a rich foundation of earth, wood, and gentle spice, complemented by the natural fruit character associated with the blend. As the cigar develops, the additional aging becomes apparent through a smoother, more integrated profile, with touches of sweetness and deeper earthy character appearing alongside the exotic tobacco flavours. The result is complex without becoming overly aggressive, allowing the unusual character of the Bragança tobacco to remain at the centre of the experience.

Presented exclusively in a substantial 6 × 52 Toro, the Extra Añejo offers plenty of time for the blend to develop while maintaining a medium-to-full-bodied profile. It is an excellent choice for fans of the original Amazon Basin as well as experienced smokers looking for something genuinely different from a traditional Nicaraguan or Dominican blend. CAO recommends pairing it with Pinot Noir or Single Malt Scotch.
